Unexpected Ally

Last time I said I was going to set a trap for the guy chasing me. A small problem with that is me not having any idea how to set traps. So that failed.
You’d think that eventually this guy would give up and go find someone else to kill. At least I thought that. I was wrong.

Turns out he was pretty damn persistent. The day after I thought I had lost him I went to investigate one the nearby buildings. For some reason they all look like giant chess pieces. The Game master really does go all the way with his theme.
Maybe a little bit overboard even.

Turns out the building was pretty much abandoned and empty. I didn’t find anything interesting so I headed back out. That’s when I saw him sneak around the corner of the building. So I bolted through the door trying to outrun him again.

That wasn’t a smart move. He tackled me to the ground the moment I ran past him. I struggled to get free but he was strong.

Next thing I know he’s pushing my face against the ground. I think I still have sand in my mouth from that struggle, probably some blood too.

Suddenly I feel a sharp pain in my chest. I struggle to look down and see a knife jabbed into me. Unfortunately for him I’m a nest. So when he pulled out his knife, out came the birds.

They swarmed over him and started pecking. Blood was everywhere as he got up and tried to run. Meanwhile I’m just laying there as birds burst out of my chest.
Let me tell you, not the most pleasant feeling.

So there we were, he’s screaming, the birds are screaming and I’m screaming. There was a lot of screaming.

By the time I manage to sit up the guy is running away from the birds. At this point they’re just messing with him. They could easily tear him apart then and there but they seem to be having fun.

That’s when a young woman jumps out from behind who knows where and slits the guys throat. The birds get angry because she stole their kill (and my points). So they attack her next.

Imagine my surprise when all the birds suddenly drop dead around her. I think I saw her eye glowing for a second but that might have just been a reflection. I don’t know, this place is weird.

She then starts walking towards me with her knife in hand. As she’s walking she pulls down her hoody. She’s got short messed up brown hair and her skin is unhealthily pale. She aims the knife at me.

Since the birds don’t seem to be able to harm her I figured I’d try to talk my way out of dying. “Hey there. Uh, How about we.. Please don’t kill me?”
Yeah, I know, I’m pretty smooth.

She didn’t respond so I had a big problem. But I don’t give up easily. At least not when my life is on the line. So I kept talking and crawling away as fast as I could. “Look it’s pretty obvious I have no way of trying to kill you so.. Uh.  Maybe we could work together? I’m pretty sure some other people have teamed up. Could make things easier for us both?”

She stopped walking and frowned. “Why the fuck would I? It’s a tournament, you’re competition.” She started walking again.

I held up my hand in an attempt to tell her to please don’t. “Well about that. We’re not really competition. You see I’m not here for the tournament.”

She didn’t stop walking. “And I’d believe you why?” She asked.

“Well I uh.. Good point. But see the thing is I’m here only to kill a certain person. Just one. Once that’s done I’ll surrender and be escorted out of this tournament. At least that’s the good scenario. Bad scenario involves me dying. Hopefully not right now though, please?”

By this point she was standing right over me and glaring right into my eyes. “Who?”

“Huh?”

“Who. Are. You. Going. To. Kill?”

“Oh, right. Well he’s most well know as the Faceless Bastard.”

She frowned and took a step back. “He’s here?”

I crawled away slightly.” Yeah, according to my sources. Why, you know him?”

She lowered her knife and sighed. “Kinda. Haven’t met him face to face though.”

“Well yeah. That’s kinda hard to do. You know with the whole..”

“For fucks sake.”

“Okay, not a fan of puns. I actually heard he got a face back now though. So maybe now you’ll get the chance!” I started getting back on my feet and ready to run.

“Fine. We can work together. Seeing that motherfucker die would be entertaining. I just hope you don’t alway talk this much. If you start to annoy me I’ll leave you to die, got it?”

“Right! I’ll try to shut up around you.”

“Good.”

“One more question though. And then I’ll shut up, I promise!”

She glared at me and then shrugged. “Fine.”

“What’s your name?”

She started to talk but then didn’t. Next there was a long awkward silence until “Hella. You can call me that.”

So yes. I’ve got a new ally. I have no idea what kind of servant she is. Or if she even is one. But at least we share an enemy. She’ll certainly be helpful to have around. Hella is probably not her real name though. Seems like she had to think of a name to use on the spot. Doesn’t really matter though.

I hope we find the target soon. I’d rather not nearly die again. Frederick out.
