Terrified

This place is a lot bigger than I expected. We’ve been trying to find Faceless for the past few days with no luck. I would have expected to eventually come across a border of some sort. Something to keep the contestants contained but so far there doesn’t appear to be any such barrier.
I imagine at least one contestant has managed to walk the wrong way and is now too far away to actually do anything. Unless the game runners sent someone after them to bring them back. Or maybe there are just so many contestants that it doesn’t matter. You’ll run into someone eventually.

If this keeps up then my best chance of finding Faceless is just to wait until the bracket style tournament starts. However that would mean I would have to fight him one on one. Which could be a problem. It also could lead to someone beating him and not killing him. Which would send him back to the “real world”. Which would be a mission failure for me.
If he gets killed by someone else that wouldn’t be as much of a problem. It’s the results that matter after all. But I’m not expecting that to happen. I did some research on my target before the mission obviously. He seems to be rather hard to kill.

I obviously have been keeping tabs on his blog. So I am aware that he knows we’re coming after him. I think I still have some element of surprise though. He has no idea of what I look like. In a tournament where everyone is trying to kill you he might mistake me for someone else.
I also have Hella as something that resembles an ally.

To be honest I might be a bit afraid of the Faceless bastard because of his reputation. But Hella? She’s so much scarier. Partly because she’s always close by and Faceless is god only knows where. But also because I now know what she can do. I’ve actually seen her power up close now. More accurately I’ve felt it.
Maybe it’s not a good idea to reveal her power on this blog since Faceless is reading this. However I don’t think it will matter much. There doesn’t seem to be a lot you can do against it.

A few days ago we had just managed to find and kill another contestant. We needed the points for food. My rations didn’t last as long because now there’s two of us.
The fight wasn’t very interesting. We cornered him on a roof of a Tower. (A Rook shaped building is basically just a tower right?)
He tried keeping us at bay with a knife but I’m a nest. So I just walked up to him and he stabbed me. Out came the birds, he tripped and fell off the edge.

Unfortunately the birds do not like Hella and tried to attack her again. With the same results as last time. This in turn pissed her off and she blamed me. I tried to tell her I don’t control the birds directly. She didn’t believe me or didn’t care.

I thought she was gonna punch me so I put up my arms to protect my face. Instead she grabbed my arm. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my chest and fell to my knees. My arms and back started hurting. I felt like I had the air drained out of my lungs and my head was spinning.

She let go of my arm and I had to struggle to not just lay down and curl up. “What.. Did you..What did you do to me?” I asked while trying to regain my breath.

“I stopped your heart.” She said.

“You what?!” I couldn’t believe what I heard. She can just stop people’s hearts by touching them. That’s just ridiculous, right? What the hell is she?

“Just for a moment. Don’t worry you’ll survive.” She turned around and walked away. “You better have learned your fucking lesson, Fred.” Was the last thing she said before she walked down the stairs. I’m pretty sure I have in fact learned my lesson.

I’d protest her calling me Fred. But after that she can call me anything she wants. Because I do not want to mess with a woman that can give me a literal heart attack.
Not to mention that I have no idea if she has any other overpowered abilities. She’s a total unknown. What Fear does she serve? Is she even a servant? Where else would she get such powers?

If I get out of this tournament alive I’m running as far away as possible from her.

Unexpected Ally

Last time I said I was going to set a trap for the guy chasing me. A small problem with that is me not having any idea how to set traps. So that failed.
You’d think that eventually this guy would give up and go find someone else to kill. At least I thought that. I was wrong.

Turns out he was pretty damn persistent. The day after I thought I had lost him I went to investigate one the nearby buildings. For some reason they all look like giant chess pieces. The Game master really does go all the way with his theme.
Maybe a little bit overboard even.

Turns out the building was pretty much abandoned and empty. I didn’t find anything interesting so I headed back out. That’s when I saw him sneak around the corner of the building. So I bolted through the door trying to outrun him again.

That wasn’t a smart move. He tackled me to the ground the moment I ran past him. I struggled to get free but he was strong.

Next thing I know he’s pushing my face against the ground. I think I still have sand in my mouth from that struggle, probably some blood too.

Suddenly I feel a sharp pain in my chest. I struggle to look down and see a knife jabbed into me. Unfortunately for him I’m a nest. So when he pulled out his knife, out came the birds.

They swarmed over him and started pecking. Blood was everywhere as he got up and tried to run. Meanwhile I’m just laying there as birds burst out of my chest.
Let me tell you, not the most pleasant feeling.

So there we were, he’s screaming, the birds are screaming and I’m screaming. There was a lot of screaming.

By the time I manage to sit up the guy is running away from the birds. At this point they’re just messing with him. They could easily tear him apart then and there but they seem to be having fun.

That’s when a young woman jumps out from behind who knows where and slits the guys throat. The birds get angry because she stole their kill (and my points). So they attack her next.

Imagine my surprise when all the birds suddenly drop dead around her. I think I saw her eye glowing for a second but that might have just been a reflection. I don’t know, this place is weird.

She then starts walking towards me with her knife in hand. As she’s walking she pulls down her hoody. She’s got short messed up brown hair and her skin is unhealthily pale. She aims the knife at me.

Since the birds don’t seem to be able to harm her I figured I’d try to talk my way out of dying. “Hey there. Uh, How about we.. Please don’t kill me?”
Yeah, I know, I’m pretty smooth.

She didn’t respond so I had a big problem. But I don’t give up easily. At least not when my life is on the line. So I kept talking and crawling away as fast as I could. “Look it’s pretty obvious I have no way of trying to kill you so.. Uh.  Maybe we could work together? I’m pretty sure some other people have teamed up. Could make things easier for us both?”

She stopped walking and frowned. “Why the fuck would I? It’s a tournament, you’re competition.” She started walking again.

I held up my hand in an attempt to tell her to please don’t. “Well about that. We’re not really competition. You see I’m not here for the tournament.”

She didn’t stop walking. “And I’d believe you why?” She asked.

“Well I uh.. Good point. But see the thing is I’m here only to kill a certain person. Just one. Once that’s done I’ll surrender and be escorted out of this tournament. At least that’s the good scenario. Bad scenario involves me dying. Hopefully not right now though, please?”

By this point she was standing right over me and glaring right into my eyes. “Who?”

“Huh?”

“Who. Are. You. Going. To. Kill?”

“Oh, right. Well he’s most well know as the Faceless Bastard.”

She frowned and took a step back. “He’s here?”

I crawled away slightly.” Yeah, according to my sources. Why, you know him?”

She lowered her knife and sighed. “Kinda. Haven’t met him face to face though.”

“Well yeah. That’s kinda hard to do. You know with the whole..”

“For fucks sake.”

“Okay, not a fan of puns. I actually heard he got a face back now though. So maybe now you’ll get the chance!” I started getting back on my feet and ready to run.

“Fine. We can work together. Seeing that motherfucker die would be entertaining. I just hope you don’t alway talk this much. If you start to annoy me I’ll leave you to die, got it?”

“Right! I’ll try to shut up around you.”

“Good.”

“One more question though. And then I’ll shut up, I promise!”

She glared at me and then shrugged. “Fine.”

“What’s your name?”

She started to talk but then didn’t. Next there was a long awkward silence until “Hella. You can call me that.”

So yes. I’ve got a new ally. I have no idea what kind of servant she is. Or if she even is one. But at least we share an enemy. She’ll certainly be helpful to have around. Hella is probably not her real name though. Seems like she had to think of a name to use on the spot. Doesn’t really matter though.

I hope we find the target soon. I’d rather not nearly die again. Frederick out.

I'm in

Frederick reporting in. I’m in the game. Couldn’t report in until now because I was being chased. I think I managed to escape for now. So far no signs of target. The guy chasing me did not fit the description and the only other living being I’ve seen around so far was a talking bat.

This place is nothing like I imagined it to be. I was told it would be a weird place but I was not expecting this. I was thinking there’d be some alien looking plant life, a couple of moons and lovecraftian sounds and shapes. Instead I got orange skies, purple clouds, a checkerboard floor and a talking bat.

I should maybe set up a trap or something. Just in case I’m still being chased and need to take them out. The points could be helpful if the mission takes longer than expected. I’ve only got rations for two weeks so I’ll need some food soon.

Tomorrow I’ll start doing some scouting. If I can get an idea of the layout and size of this place I might be able to make contact faster. I should also keep an eye on the other tournament contestants. Don’t want to get caught up in too many battles. I’m only here for the mission.

I’ll make another report when something changes. Frederick out.
